Through the Uvalde capturing, an off-duty federal agent’s wife texted him for assist. “I asked my barber if he had a gun,” he mentioned.

Jacob Albarado was in his barber's chair when both men bought text messages in regards to the capturing unfolding at Robb Elementary Faculty in Uvalde, Texas, last week. "There's an active shooter. Assist. Love you," Albarado's wife Trisha stated in three messages at 11:41 a.m.

She's a fourth grade instructor at the school, and their daughter is a pupil there.

"I asked my barber if he had a gun," Albarado, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent, told CBS Information on Wednesday. He had attended an awards ceremony at the school earlier that morning and was off responsibility, with his weapon at residence.

The barber did have a gun. Albarado took it, a shotgun, and so they rushed to the chaotic scene. Police officers were already there, and Albarado began helping.

"Youngsters are popping out the home windows," he mentioned.

With people fleeing to a funeral home across the street, Albarado stated he wished to get inside the college as quick as he may.

"I used to be performing as a husband and a father," he said.

His spouse let him know she made it to the funeral residence, however she advised him their daughter was locked in a college restroom.

"I didn't know what restroom," Albarado said.

He finally discovered his daughter was in a restroom positioned inside her classroom. Albarado met up with two officers close to the classroom.

"We need to get the children out of here," Albarado mentioned he advised the officers. "… The shooter's over there. We need to get the children out. That is our time."

The officers began opening classroom doors, and Albarado said he guided individuals to safety.

"First classroom, second classroom, third classroom, saw my daughter," Albarado stated. "Reduction. Large relief."

He hugged and kissed her, and shortly she was heading to the school parking zone.

While Border Patrol brokers were on the workforce that breached the classroom where the gunman was holed up, Albarado wasn't in that group.

"I didn't have my gear, and so it would not have been a good move for me to get into the constructing," he said. "I did not have my vest. A shotgun's not a ok protection."

During a press conference last week, the head of the Texas Department of Public Security said the school district's police chief did not initially ship officers into the classroom where the gunman was positioned because he thought it was no longer an active-shooter state of affairs. The U.S. Justice Department is conducting a overview of the police response.

For his half, Albarado mentioned he wasn't ready to assess the response.

"I know my fellow officers," he said, "and … to me, heart of hearts, I imagine they were doing the whole lot of their energy they could do."
