Florida fifth grader arrested, charged with threatening a mass capturing, police say

A fifth grade student in Florida was arrested over the weekend and charged with sending a textual content message threatening to carry out a mass capturing, authorities said.

In an announcement Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Workplace said it had discovered earlier that day of a "threatening textual content message" despatched by a pupil at an elementary school.

It stated its local faculty threat enforcement staff was immediately notified and started investigating. The ten-year-old boy was interviewed and charged later with "making a written risk to conduct a mass capturing," the sheriff's office stated.

In video shared by authorities, the boy can be seen being led into a police car.

“This student’s habits is sickening, particularly after the latest tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno mentioned in a statement, noting that the threat came simply days after the lethal school shooting at Robb Elementary College left 19 college students and two lecturers useless.

“Proper now isn't the time to behave like slightly delinquent. It’s not funny,” he said. “This little one made a pretend threat, and now he’s experiencing actual penalties.”

Marceno stated his team “didn’t hesitate one second...NOT ONE SECOND,” to investigate the incident.

The remark came as authorities in Uvalde face mounting criticism over their response to the Might 24 faculty shooting after it came to light that they waited roughly an hour for backup as an alternative of immediately transferring in on the gunman.
