Florida fifth grader arrested, charged with threatening a mass capturing, police say

A fifth grade pupil in Florida was arrested over the weekend and charged with sending a text message threatening to hold out a mass taking pictures, authorities mentioned.

In a statement Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Workplace mentioned it had learned earlier that day of a "threatening textual content message" despatched by a student at an elementary faculty.

It stated its local school threat enforcement team was immediately notified and started investigating. The 10-year-old boy was interviewed and charged later with "making a written menace to conduct a mass capturing," the sheriff's office said.

In video shared by authorities, the boy can be seen being led into a police automobile.

“This pupil’s habits is sickening, especially after the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno mentioned in a press release, noting that the threat got here just days after the lethal college shooting at Robb Elementary Faculty left 19 college students and two teachers dead.

“Proper now is just not the time to behave like a bit of delinquent. It’s not funny,” he stated. “This youngster made a pretend menace, and now he’s experiencing real penalties.”

Marceno stated his group “didn’t hesitate one second...NOT ONE SECOND,” to investigate the incident.

The comment came as authorities in Uvalde face mounting criticism over their response to the May 24 faculty taking pictures after it got here to mild that they waited roughly an hour for backup as a substitute of immediately transferring in on the gunman.
