A Russian reconnaissance aircraft briefly violated Sweden’s airspace on Friday, Swedish protection officials stated on Saturday, as the Scandinavian country ponders a bid for NATO membership after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“A Russian AN-30 propeller airplane violated Swedish airspace on Friday night,” the Swedish protection ministry mentioned in an announcement, adding that its teams had followed the incident and photographed it.
The ministry stated the airplane was flying east of Bornholm, a Danish island within the Baltic, earlier than it headed toward Swedish territory.
“It's completely unacceptable to violate Swedish airspace,” public television SVT quoted Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist as saying.
“This action is unprofessional and given the final security scenario very inappropriate. Swedish sovereignty must all the time be respected.”
