On-line diary: Buffalo gunman plotted attack for months

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The white gunman accused of massacring 10 Black individuals at a Buffalo grocery store wrote way back to November about staging a livestreamed assault on African Individuals, practiced taking pictures from his automobile and traveled hours from his house in March to scout out the store, according to detailed diary entries he seems to have posted online.

The writer of the diary posted hand-drawn maps of the grocery store along with tallies of the variety of Black people he counted there, and recounted how a Black safety guard on the supermarket confronted him that day to ask what he was up to. A Black safety guard was among the many useless in Saturday’s shooting rampage.

The diary taken from the chat platform Discord got here to light two days after 18-year-old Payton Gendron allegedly opened fireplace with an AR-15-style rifle on the Tops Friendly Market. Federal legislation bars individuals from proudly owning weapons if a judge has decided they have a “psychological defect” or they've been pressured into a mental institution. An evaluation alone wouldn't trigger the prohibition.

At the White House, President Joe Biden, who planned a visit Tuesday to Buffalo, paid tribute to the slain safety guard, retired police officer Aaron Salter.
