A California district attorney declined to file expenses Tuesday in opposition to former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson after he was recorded on video in a bodily altercation with one other passenger on a JetBlue flight.
San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe made the choice after having reviewed police experiences and videos of the April 20 incident. Each the passenger, who has not been identified, and Tyson requested that no fees be filed.
"Yesterday afternoon the San Mateo County District Lawyer’s Office concluded its assessment of the case involving Mike Tyson at the San Francisco Airport on April 20, 2022 and the allegation that he dedicated a misdemeanor battery against another passenger on an airplane whereas waiting at the terminal previous to departure," Wagstaffe stated in a statement.
"Our resolution is that we will not file any expenses against Mr. Tyson primarily based on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. These include the conduct of the sufferer main up to the incident, the interplay between Mr. Tyson and the victim, as well as the requests of both the sufferer and Mr. Tyson that no costs be filed in this case," Wagstaffe said.
The case is now closed.
Cellphone video showed Tyson, 55, appearing to try to punch someone who was pushing him away. Representatives for Tyson mentioned the particular person was harassing Tyson. The video didn't present what happened earlier than the altercation.
David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Martin Sabelli, attorneys for Tyson, responded to the decision to not file expenses by thanking Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County sheriff and legislation enforcement companies "for their careful, diligent, and professional work."
