Mike Tyson will not face charges in altercation with JetBlue passenger, district lawyer says

A California district legal professional declined to file expenses Tuesday in opposition to former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson after he was recorded on video in a bodily altercation with another passenger on a JetBlue flight.

San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe made the choice after having reviewed police studies and movies of the April 20 incident. Each the passenger, who has not been recognized, and Tyson requested that no prices be filed.

"Yesterday afternoon the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Workplace concluded its evaluate of the case involving Mike Tyson at the San Francisco Airport on April 20, 2022 and the allegation that he dedicated a misdemeanor battery towards one other passenger on an airplane whereas ready at the terminal prior to departure," Wagstaffe said in a press release.

"Our decision is that we'll not file any prices in opposition to Mr. Tyson based on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. These embrace the conduct of the sufferer leading up to the incident, the interplay between Mr. Tyson and the sufferer, as well as the requests of both the sufferer and Mr. Tyson that no charges be filed in this case," Wagstaffe stated.

The case is now closed.

Cellphone video showed Tyson, 55, appearing to try to punch someone who was pushing him away. Representatives for Tyson mentioned the person was harassing Tyson. The video did not show what occurred before the altercation.

David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Martin Sabelli, attorneys for Tyson, responded to the choice to not file fees by thanking Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County sheriff and legislation enforcement agencies "for their careful, diligent, and professional work."
