Dad or mum with hid weapon accidentally shoots self while at Arlington ISD school, police say

Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary College was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mother or father with a hid weapon had his gun by accident go off, hitting the mum or dad within the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary School was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mum or dad with a concealed weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the dad or mum in the leg.

The varsity had early launch and college students had been released on the deliberate time of 12:10 p.m.

In accordance with police, the dad or mum, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and unintentionally shot himself. His harm was not serious.

The college district mentioned White was contained in the building, close to the foyer area, and not in the hallway close to college students when the gun went off.

Police and faculty officers mentioned there was no risk made and the mum or dad didn't have "malicious intent."

No students or workers have been injured. The father or mother was taken to an space hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones stated after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

Within the two days since the Uvalde mass faculty capturing, there have been 5 circumstances in North Texas associated to weapons introduced to schools or threats made.

Arlington parents stated their minds instantly considered the worst after they had been notified.

No dad or mum ever desires there to be a cause for them to get a textual content message saying their kid's college is on lockdown.

But since this week's deadly taking pictures at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they cannot help but suppose the worst once they do.

"Once I acquired the text message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, one thing goes to occur.’ I used to be shocked," dad or mum Karima Rasheed mentioned.

Whereas most instances, lockdowns are only drills college students have to take part in, Rasheed's son, Rami, stated that knowing what happened earlier this week made this lockdown totally different. 

"I began seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our trainer bought a notification on their phone saying someone was within the constructing," he said.

Guns should not allowed on school property, and parents FOX 4 spoke with said even if it was a mistake, the timing is simply terrible.

"What are we going to do? They must go to high school, and clearly, statistically, it's unlikely to occur, however you never want to be the one statistic. What if it's your kids?" Matthew Mitchell mentioned.

Mitchell lives throughout the road from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington college. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve got twin six-year-olds that go to a distinct Arlington school and each time I hear there is a lockdown or a faculty taking pictures, my coronary heart jumps into my throat," he mentioned.

Rasheed stated Thursday was the commencement day for sixth grade students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to highschool within the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever happened at his college.

"If one thing happened, you’ve obtained to run anywhere that’s secure and hide," she told her little one.

While some say the incident in Uvalde is too fresh to talk politics, Mitchell mentioned something needs to be finished now. 

"They need to speak about it, they wish to marketing campaign on it, they need to fundraiser on it, however they don’t wish to actually cross any laws and do something," he added.
