Mum or dad with hid weapon by chance shoots self while at Arlington ISD school, police say

Arlington police said Duff Elementary School was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a father or mother with a hid weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the parent within the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police stated Duff Elementary School was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a parent with a hid weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the dad or mum within the leg.

The college had early release and students were launched at the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

In accordance with police, the guardian, identified as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and accidentally shot himself. His damage was not serious.

The college district mentioned White was contained in the constructing, near the foyer area, and not within the hallway near college students when the gun went off.

Police and school officials mentioned there was no menace made and the father or mother didn't have "malicious intent."

No college students or workers have been injured. The father or mother was taken to an area hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones stated after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited locations and discharge of a firearm in sure municipalities.

In the two days since the Uvalde mass school shooting, there have been 5 instances in North Texas related to guns introduced to colleges or threats made.

Arlington mother and father stated their minds immediately considered the worst when they have been notified.

No mum or dad ever wants there to be a cause for them to get a text message saying their child's school is on lockdown.

However since this week's lethal shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they cannot assist but suppose the worst after they do.

"After I acquired the textual content message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, one thing is going to occur.’ I was shocked," parent Karima Rasheed said.

Whereas most occasions, lockdowns are only drills college students have to participate in, Rasheed's son, Rami, stated that figuring out what happened earlier this week made this lockdown completely different. 

"I began seeing my classmates starting to cry and our instructor got a notification on their cellphone saying someone was within the constructing," he mentioned.

Guns are not allowed on school property, and parents FOX 4 spoke with mentioned even if it was a mistake, the timing is just terrible.

"What are we going to do? They should go to school, and obviously, statistically, it is unlikely to occur, however you never want to be the one statistic. What if it's your kids?" Matthew Mitchell said.

Mitchell lives throughout the street from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington school. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve obtained twin six-year-olds that go to a different Arlington college and every time I hear there is a lockdown or a school capturing, my coronary heart jumps into my throat," he stated.

Rasheed stated Thursday was the graduation day for 6th grade students at Duff Elementary.

Whereas driving her son to high school within the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever happened at his faculty.

"If one thing occurred, you’ve acquired to run anywhere that’s safe and hide," she told her youngster.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is just too contemporary to talk politics, Mitchell mentioned one thing needs to be performed now. 

"They want to speak about it, they want to marketing campaign on it, they want to fundraiser on it, but they don’t want to truly move any laws and do something," he added.
