Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was released.

The US tech giant said its iconic music player has been changed by other gadgets, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide advertising and marketing, mentioned: "Immediately, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We've integrated an unbelievable music expertise throughout all of our products, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and throughout Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound quality with assist for spatial audio - there's no better way to take pleasure in, uncover, and experience music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the unique iPod and it was the first MP3 player that might maintain 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented a complete new category of digital music participant that lets you put your whole music assortment in your pocket and hearken to it wherever you go," he mentioned on the time.

"With iPod, listening to music will never be the same again."

Similar MP3 players launched by Microsoft and Sony didn't have the same success as the iPod.

Apple has launched five variations of its music participant - the Basic, Contact, Shuffle, Mini and Nano.

The corporate has been slowly killing its iPod range lately, with mobile phone know-how enabling customers to listen to music services on their telephones.

In 2014, the traditional click on wheel model was discontinued, and the Shuffle and Nano had been killed off three years later.

The seventh-generation iPod contact was the one model still on sale at this time.
