Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was released.

The US tech large stated its iconic music player has been changed by other gadgets, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide marketing, mentioned: "At present, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We've built-in an unimaginable music experience across all of our merchandise, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and throughout Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound high quality with support for spatial audio - there is no better approach to take pleasure in, uncover, and experience music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the unique iPod and it was the primary MP3 player that might hold 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented an entire new class of digital music participant that lets you put your total music collection in your pocket and take heed to it wherever you go," he said at the time.

"With iPod, listening to music won't ever be the same again."

Comparable MP3 gamers launched by Microsoft and Sony did not have the same success as the iPod.

Apple has released 5 variations of its music participant - the Traditional, Touch, Shuffle, Mini and Nano.
