Talking in the dugout of the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kapler said, "I do not plan on popping out for the anthem going forward till I feel better concerning the path of our country."
In a weblog post, Kapler questioned whether or not the country's leadership is dedicated to representing its people's best interests and whether or not america is really "the land of the free and the home of the courageous.""We weren't given bravery, and we aren't free. The police on the scene put a mom in handcuffs as she begged them to go in and save her youngsters. They blocked dad and mom attempting to organize to cost in to stop the shooter, including a father who realized his daughter was murdered whereas he argued with the cops. We aren't free when politicians determine that the lobbyist and gun industries are more important than our youngsters's freedom to go to school without having bulletproof backpacks and lively shooter drills," Kapler wrote.
Later, Kapler wrote about his disillusionment with what he called "the shortage of delivery of the promise of what our nationwide anthem represents."
"I am not okay with the state of this country. I wish I hadn't let my discomfort compromise my integrity. I wish that I could have demonstrated what I discovered from my dad, that while you're dissatisfied with your nation, you let it's identified via protest. The house of the brave ought to encourage this."
