A fifth grade scholar in Florida was arrested over the weekend and charged with sending a text message threatening to carry out a mass shooting, authorities mentioned.

In a press release Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Workplace mentioned it had learned earlier that day of a "threatening text message" despatched by a pupil at an elementary faculty.

It mentioned its local faculty menace enforcement crew was instantly notified and started investigating. The 10-year-old boy was interviewed and charged later with "making a written risk to conduct a mass shooting," the sheriff's workplace stated.

In video shared by authorities, the boy will be seen being led right into a police vehicle.

“This pupil’s habits is sickening, particularly after the latest tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno stated in a press release, noting that the risk came simply days after the lethal college capturing at Robb Elementary College left 19 students and two academics useless.

“Right now will not be the time to act like a bit of delinquent. It’s not humorous,” he said. “This child made a faux risk, and now he’s experiencing real penalties.”

Marceno mentioned his team “didn’t hesitate one second...NOT ONE SECOND,” to investigate the incident.

The remark came as authorities in Uvalde face mounting criticism over their response to the May 24 faculty shooting after it got here to mild that they waited roughly an hour for backup instead of instantly transferring in on the gunman.
