10 injured, 3 regulation enforcement officers harm after gunfire erupts in Charleston, S.C.

Ten individuals had been injured, four critically, and three regulation enforcement officers had been hurt Monday evening after gunfire erupted in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, according to police.

An officer with the Charleston Police Division responded to the scene following a noise grievance and was shot at whereas in a police cruiser, officials mentioned. The officer was not hit however suffered damage from shrapnel, and was hospitalized and released, Reynolds stated.

Reynolds stated there were more than 100 evidence markers at the capturing scene, and more than half are shell casings.

“There’s quite a lot of weapons that have been fired. Handguns, lengthy weapons, 223 rounds. If anyone doesn’t know what a 223 round will do, it’ll blow your leg right off, it’ll blow your head right off your shoulders. Those are the kinds of rounds that had been fired last night,” Reynolds stated.

He stated there were “a pair different groups capturing at one another usually.”

The investigation is ongoing and officers are still working the scene.

Two people were arrested stemming from the assaults on the deputies, police stated.

These suspects were identified as Ayesha McGee and Tahira McGee, NBC affiliate of WCBD of Charleston reported, citing reports from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office. 

Ayesha McGee was charged with third-degree assault and battery and Tahira McGee with second-degree assault and battery and resisting arrest. 

Officers stated extra arrests are expected.

Officials said South Road from Nassau Avenue to Drake Road and America Road from Reid Street to Mary Road within the area will stay closed to process the taking pictures scene.

The mayor condemned gun violence within the city and across the nation, a nod to the Buffalo, New York, supermarket taking pictures and the Uvalde, Texas, school taking pictures.

“I don’t learn about you however I’m mad about it. I’m fed up,” Tecklenburg said. “Sufficient is sufficient."
