During the Uvalde taking pictures, an off-duty federal agent’s wife texted him for assist. “I requested my barber if he had a gun,” he stated.

Jacob Albarado was in his barber's chair when each men obtained text messages in regards to the taking pictures unfolding at Robb Elementary College in Uvalde, Texas, final week. "There's an energetic shooter. Help. Love you," Albarado's spouse Trisha said in three messages at 11:41 a.m.

She's a fourth grade trainer at the college, and their daughter is a pupil there.

"I requested my barber if he had a gun," Albarado, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent, informed CBS Information on Wednesday. He had attended an awards ceremony on the school earlier that morning and was off responsibility, together with his weapon at house.

The barber did have a gun. Albarado took it, a shotgun, and they rushed to the chaotic scene. Law enforcement officials have been already there, and Albarado started helping.

"Youngsters are coming out the windows," he stated.

With people fleeing to a funeral house across the street, Albarado stated he wanted to get inside the varsity as fast as he may.

"I used to be appearing as a husband and a father," he said.

His spouse let him know she made it to the funeral dwelling, but she instructed him their daughter was locked in a school restroom.

"I didn't know what restroom," Albarado said.

He finally discovered his daughter was in a restroom located inside her classroom. Albarado met up with two officers close to the classroom.

"We have to get the children out of right here," Albarado stated he instructed the officers. "… The shooter's over there. We have to get the kids out. This is our time."

The officers began opening classroom doors, and Albarado stated he guided folks to safety.

"First classroom, second classroom, third classroom, noticed my daughter," Albarado said. "Relief. Large aid."

He hugged and kissed her, and soon she was heading to the varsity car parking zone.

While Border Patrol agents have been on the group that breached the classroom the place the gunman was holed up, Albarado wasn't in that group.

"I did not have my gear, and so it would not have been a smart move for me to get into the constructing," he stated. "I didn't have my vest. A shotgun's not a good enough protection."

Throughout a press conference last week, the top of the Texas Division of Public Safety mentioned the school district's police chief did not initially send officers into the classroom the place the gunman was positioned as a result of he thought it was now not an active-shooter situation. The U.S. Justice Division is conducting a evaluation of the police response.

For his part, Albarado said he wasn't ready to assess the response.

"I do know my fellow officers," he said, "and … to me, heart of hearts, I consider they were doing all the things of their energy they might do."
